If you are expecting and want pretty toenails, here is my advice:
Skip the nail salon. Do your nails at home, or better yet, outside. Nail salons are filled with fumes that you can breath in and expose your baby to.
Use a water based nail polish. They don’t have any smelly fumes. If you use conventional polish, at least get a brand that is 3 free. That means it is free of dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, or formaldehyde. DBP is a dangerous reproductive toxicant. Toluene is also dangerous while pregnant and could cause developmental harm to the unborn infant. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen and it may irritate your skin.
Use an acetone-free nail polish remover. Better yet, use a water or soy based remover that goes along with your water based nail polish.
Definitely pass on the acrylic nails. You don’t want to breath in the potent acrylic monomer liquid used to create acrylic nails. You could also develop a nasty infection under the fake nails, which could be dangerous to a newborn baby.
